Bigger role sought
Penang MCA members want a DCM post and extra exco seat.
MCA grassroots members here want the state party leadership to pull out of the Gerakan-led state government following talk that the MCA would not be given greater representation.
Sources said yesterday the members felt that MCA should not participate in the state government if the party, which won all nine seats it contested in the recent general election, was not given more responsibilities to shoulder.
The MCA had earlier requested an additional Deputy Chief Minister's post and an exco seat but it is learnt that the party would have only two representatives.
One source said: "The general feeling of grassroots members is that if we are not recognised for our role and contributions and for the mandate given by the people, we should not accept any government posts, including the exco."
It is learnt that party president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik will hold an emergency meeting today with state party leaders who are said to be considering the "pull out" proposal.
