The Kelantan government today welcomed Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paduka Ibrahim Ali's call for the abolishment of the Kelantan Federal Development Department (JPP).

Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said the state government had long been saying that the JPP was not needed to facilitate the channeling of federal funds to the state for development projects.

During Barisan Nasional (BN) rule in Kelantan previously, there was no JPP in the state but development projects could still be carried out in an orderly and efficient manner, he said.

"This (the channeling of federal funds) can be carried out through the state government as was done when the BN was ruling the state," he told reporters at a thanksgiving ceremony in Kampung Gaal here held to mark PAS' victory in last week's general election.

Ibrahim, who failed to win the Pasir Mas parliamentary seat in the election, said last week that the JPP should be abolished because the Kelantan government had allegedly denied that it was a poor state.

Nik Aziz said money could be saved by scrapping the JPP and transferring its staff to other departments.

"It is very sad the way money is being used in JPP," he said.

He cited the appointment of additional village heads through the JPP in mukims that already have village heads just because of poltical differences between the state and federal governments.

Nik Aziz hoped that the Kelantan people's decision to choose PAS for a third term would help change the perspective held by certain people about the state government's ability to manage the state well.

"Don't think that the opposition (PAS) wants to be disloyal....the opposition acts as advisers," he said.

+ jawapan TG Nik A Aziz memang bernas dan boleh diterima pakai. Bukankah ini satu bukti bahawa BN/UMNO sendiri yang ugut rakyat? Rakyat sudah tolak mereka. Ugutan ini tidak relevan.
