Lawyer to challenge Karpal

PENANG: The Barisan Nasional is fielding a lawyer to fight DAP's Karpal Singh who will be trying to retain the Jelutong parliamentary seat which he has held for 21 years.

Gerakan's Lee Kah Choon may be a first-timer, but he is entering the "lion's den" with confidence.

Lee, 39, said the constituents need a "wind of change," adding that he could deliver the goods both in Parliament and in attending to the woes faced by the people.

He said as flooding was the main problem faced by those staying in Sungai Pinang and Datuk Keramat, he would look into the enforcement of laws to check the problem.

Lee, a father of two, has been a Seberang Prai Municipal Councillor since 1997. He is also the Gerakan Youth vice-chairman and state Gerakan assistant secretary.

The battle of the lawyers is expected to be "clean" as Karpal Singh, 59, has assured the BN candidate that it would be a fair fight.

"I welcome my challenger and wish him luck.

"I will leave it to the people. I hope their confidence in me will be translated into victory (for DAP)," he said.
